February is the shortest month of the year, and this year’s felt like I lived multiple months in one. Two words I’ve been tending to quietly for awhile BURSTED through the icy grounds. Their names are: bravery and desire.

I debated on sharing excerpts of essays I wrote inspired by this month’s events for this letter:

  • “The Distance Between Two Points is Measured in Memories” - from Marlene Creates’ talk @ OCAD

  • the overlap of Valentine’s Day + Family Day + Chinese New Year (HELLO YEAR OF THE FIRE HORSE)

  • the dumpling party I hosted to celebrate the above + all the love that came to my door

  • Ash Wednesday on the TTC + thoughts on Lent

  • Beholding the faces of those in acting class and bookclub

  • 2 weeks of residency (1 in creation, the other as teacher) and...

  • My February side quest: sprained ankle
*insert Olympic ice skating fantasy turned slow-motion multi-staged fall here*

But none of them felt quite right so I’ve decided to share my grade 11 contemporary solo and some new headshots instead. Hello, it’s me, in this moment.

After nearly a year and a half since parting with my long braid, I finally got some updated photos. What took me so long? That’s a whole other essay in itself.
